Description
Product Introduction
The Beckhoff CX1100-0001 is the basic power supply module for the CX1010 and CX1020 Embedded PC family. It accepts 24 V DC and distributes power to the rest of the CX system over the internal PC/104 bus, eliminating the need for separate supply lines to the CPU or interface modules.
Beyond power conversion it includes an 8 kbyte NOVRAM for voltage-failure-proof process data storage, a two-line illuminated FSTN LCD for system and user messages, and a navigation switch. Unlike the -0002, -0003, or -0004 variants, the CX1100-0001 has no K-bus, E-bus, or IP-Link connectors. It is intended for systems that rely on remote I/O or fieldbus interfaces rather than local Bus Terminals.
The module is field-replaceable. If local I/O is later required, it can be swapped for a CX1100-0002 or similar unit without changing the CPU.

Application Scenarios & The “Trench” Experience
It’s 03:20 and the CX1020 controller has lost power. The rest of the machine is waiting. You need a known-good CX1100-0001 that drops straight into the existing PC/104 stack, powers the CPU, and restores the LCD diagnostics without rewiring the entire panel.
- CX1010 / CX1020 Embedded PC Systems – Primary power and local operator interface – Supplies the entire stack via the PC/104 bus and provides the only local display when no other HMI is present.
- Machine Control with Remote I/O – Systems that use EtherCAT, PROFIBUS, or other fieldbus interfaces rather than local Bus Terminals – The -0001 variant keeps the footprint small when local K-bus or E-bus is not required.
- Retrofit & Spare-Part Stocking – Maintaining existing CX10x0 installations – Field-replaceable design allows quick swap without disturbing the CPU or interface modules.
- Compact Control Cabinets – Space-constrained panels – 45 mm width and integrated display reduce the need for separate power supplies and operator panels.
Field Case Study
A packaging machine builder lost the original power supply on a CX1020-based filler. OEM lead time was several weeks. A tested CX1100-0001 was installed the same day. After confirming the 24 V feed and seating the PC/104 connector, the system booted, the LCD showed normal status, and production resumed within four hours. The plant now keeps one verified spare on the shelf for each CX10x0 line.

Transparency SOP: Quality Assurance & Testing
We don’t just ship boxes; every module is verified on a live CX system.
- Inbound Inspection – OEM part-number and revision check, housing integrity, connector pins, and LCD condition.
- Live Rig Testing – Powered at 24 V DC on a CX1010/CX1020 stack; PWR LED, LCD function, NOVRAM retention, and PC/104 power distribution confirmed.
- Electrical Parameter Checks – Input current, dielectric integrity, and output stability measured.
- Function Verification – Display messages and navigation switch response exercised.
- Final QC & Packaging – Functional burn-in, serial documentation, and ESD-safe packaging for industrial shipment.
The Veteran’s Tech Trap Guide
⚠️ This module has no I/O interfaces. If the original system used Bus Terminals or Fieldbus Boxes, you need a CX1100-0002, -0003, or -0004. Installing a -0001 will leave the local I/O dead.
❗ PC/104 seating is critical. Poor contact on the internal bus causes intermittent power or communication faults. Clean the connectors and seat the module firmly before applying power.
⚠️ Fuse or Class 2 supply required. For UL compliance use a 4 A fuse or a NEC Class 2 power supply. Undersized protection can lead to nuisance trips or, worse, damage under fault conditions.
❗ Service-phase product. New production is limited. Confirm firmware and hardware revision against the existing unit; mixing revisions can cause unexpected behavior in older TwinCAT systems.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ for Conversion)
Q: Does the CX1100-0001 support local Bus Terminals or EtherCAT Terminals?
A: No. It has no K-bus or E-bus interface. For local I/O use the CX1100-0002 (K-bus), CX1100-0003 (K-bus + IP-Link), or CX1100-0004 (E-bus).
Q: Can it be hot-swapped?
A: Power the system down before removal or insertion. Live exchange risks damage to the PC/104 bus or the module itself.
Q: What is the purpose of the NOVRAM?
A: It provides 8 kbytes of non-volatile storage for process data that must survive power loss. The CPU accesses it over the system bus.
Q: What warranty is provided?
A: 12 months from ship date on tested new-surplus units.
Q: Why is this sometimes cheaper than current Beckhoff list price?
A: The CX1100-0001 is in the service phase. Genuine units recovered from surplus inventory cost less while remaining original Beckhoff hardware.
Q: How is power connected?
A: Through the 5-pin open-style connector: +24 V, 0 V, Ground, and optional UPS terminals. Power is then distributed internally via the PC/104 bus.
Q: Is the display and navigation switch required?
A: They are part of the module. The display shows system and user messages; the switch allows basic local navigation without an external HMI.
